MARILYN is an original mixed-media currency artwork created across four genuine US $1 bills, arranged as one continuous composition.
The bills alternate between the front and reverse sides of the currency, allowing different elements of the original note design to remain visible throughout the portrait. The typography, seals, engraving and serial details of the dollars become part of the finished image rather than simply sitting behind it.
The portrait is built directly across the four individual banknotes using acrylic paint and ink, with sections of the original currency intentionally left exposed. The result sits somewhere between portraiture, money and object — the banknotes remain recognisable while forming one larger image when displayed together.
A small yellow C̶o̶u̶n̶t̶e̶r̶f̶e̶i̶t̶ Art Dept.™ smiley finishes the piece as a subtle brand mark rather than dominating the artwork.
Each completed artwork is individually numbered, serialised and NFC authenticated, linking the physical piece to its digital certificate of authenticity.
